Bishop T.D. Jakes experienced a “slight health incident” on Sunday while delivering a lengthy sermon, according to The Potter’s House, his Dallas-based megachurch. The 67-year-old pastor and author was stable as of Sunday night, as stated by the church.
Footage shared on social media showed Jakes pausing during his sermon and appearing unsteady as individuals came to his aid on stage. The Potter’s House reported that Jakes received “immediate medical attention” following the hourlong sermon, and the incident was acknowledged in a statement posted to his official X (formerly Twitter) account.
“The entire Potter’s House family is grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support from the community,” the church’s statement read.
Founded by Jakes in 1996, The Potter’s House is a nondenominational, multicultural Christian church with over 30,000 members, according to its website.
Jakes’ daughter, Sarah Jakes Roberts, and her husband, Touré Roberts, both of whom are frequent speakers at The Potter’s House, provided an update in a video shared on Instagram Sunday evening. They confirmed that Jakes was “already beginning to improve.”
“It’s a reminder that as we approach this holiday season, we need to cherish the people close to us and be grateful for all the blessings God has given us,” said Sarah Jakes Roberts.
Touré Roberts added, “Today could have been a tragic day, but it wasn’t. By the mercy and grace of God, Bishop is recovering well, under medical care, and staying strong. We’re trying to convince him to rest, but he’s the determined Bishop we all know and love. We truly appreciate your prayers.”
