Masked Gang Targets Home of Woman in Conor McGregor Civil Case
A gang of masked men broke into the home of a woman who brought a civil case against MMA fighter Conor McGregor, accusing him of raping her. The incident, which took place in June, came to light during legal proceedings in Dublin but was initially unreportable as it arose during private legal discussions.
The woman, Nikita Hand, was awarded nearly €250,000 (£208,000) in damages after a jury in Ireland’s high court found that McGregor had assaulted her in December 2018. The civil trial verdict was delivered on Friday.
Hand's legal counsel, John Gordon, told the court that on June 14, masked intruders broke into her home, smashed windows, and stabbed her boyfriend, who fought them off. Hand’s daughter was asleep in a nearby room at the time.
Gordon clarified that there was no claim McGregor was involved in the attack but argued that it contributed to Hand's anxiety and led her to relocate from her Drimnagh home. He suggested the incident was not random but likely linked to supporters of McGregor.
McGregor's barrister, Remy Farrell, dismissed the connection as speculative and irrelevant, prompting the judge to rule that the incident should not influence the jury’s decision.
A Garda spokesperson confirmed that authorities are investigating the burglary, noting that the injured man received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
McGregor has denied Hand’s allegations, describing them as fabrications. He stated his intent to appeal the court's decision, emphasizing that the damages were awarded for assault, not for aggravated or exemplary damages.
In 2020, Ireland’s Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) declined to pursue a criminal case due to insufficient evidence.
The case has sparked discussions about consent, with the judge reminding the jury that "submission" does not equate to consent, and risky behavior, such as drinking or drug use, does not imply sexual availability.
