Several prominent players, including Lockie Ferguson, Shai Hope, and Chris Jordan, will face the dilemma of choosing which league to participate in.
The third season of ILT20 will kick off on January 11 in Dubai with MI Emirates facing Dubai Capitals. The final is set to take place on February 9 in Dubai. The last league match of the six-team tournament will be held on February 3, with the playoffs beginning on February 5. Dubai will host the first qualifier, while Abu Dhabi will stage the eliminator, and Sharjah will host the second qualifier.
As reported by ESPNcricinfo, the ILT20 will clash with several other major leagues, including the SA20, BBL, BPL, and New Zealand's Super Smash. Players who have committed to more than one league will face tough decisions about where to play.
The biggest scheduling conflict for ILT20 will be with the SA20, running from January 9 to February 8. The BBL will take place from December 15 to January 27, the BPL from December 30 to February 7, and the Super Smash from December 26 to February 2.
The BBL faced a similar challenge last season when the ILT20 started on January 19, causing many overseas players to leave for the UAE before the BBL finals. This time, players like David Warner, who has committed to playing the full BBL season with Sydney Thunder, won’t be available for Dubai Capitals in the ILT20 until January 17, or later if Thunder makes the finals. On the other hand, Lockie Ferguson will play for Thunder in the BBL before joining Desert Vipers for the ILT20. Other players facing similar scheduling conflicts include Jake Fraser-McGurk (Melbourne Renegades/Dubai Capitals), Matthew Wade (Hobart Hurricanes/Sharjah Warriorz), Chris Jordan (Hurricanes/Gulf Giants), and Shai Hope (Hurricanes/Dubai Capitals).
Several stars have been retained for the ILT20, including Andre Russell and Sunil Narine (Abu Dhabi Knight Riders), Warner (Dubai Capitals), Rovman Powell (Dubai Capitals), Shimron Hetmyer (Gulf Giants), and Nicholas Pooran (MI Emirates). Newcomers like Jason Roy (Sharjah Warriorz), Fakhar Zaman (Desert Vipers), and Wade will make their debut in the tournament.
A total of 34 matches will be played, with 15 at Dubai International Stadium, 11 at Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi, and 8 in Sharjah. Evening matches will start at 6:30 PM on weekdays and 6:00 PM on weekends, with afternoon double-headers kicking off at 2:00 PM.
ILT20 CEO David White acknowledged the crowded January-February window, especially with the Champions Trophy also complicating scheduling. Initially considering a shift to the October-November window, the ILT20 has opted to remain in its traditional timing. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) also announced a move for the PSL to an April-May window, avoiding the crowded December-February period, although this will clash with the IPL.
